Proof of Ownership

Our proof of ownership policy

1. Why we ask

We need to confirm that you are the vehicle owner, registered keeper, or authorised to request work on the vehicle. This protects customers, helps prevent theft and fraud, and ensures we only carry out work where the correct authority has been provided.

2. What we need

We keep this straightforward. Before starting work we will usually ask for:

  • Photo ID, such as a driving licence or passport.

  • One document that links you to the vehicle, such as a V5C, insurance document, finance agreement, lease agreement, purchase invoice, sales receipt, company authorisation or fleet authorisation.

  • Where possible, the name, address, registration number or VIN should match the vehicle and customer details provided.

A V5C log book may help link you to the vehicle as the registered keeper, but it is not always proof of legal ownership. In some cases, we may ask for extra supporting evidence.

3. If you do not have documents to hand

If you are stranded and do not have the usual documents with you, please message us what you do have before we attend. We will confirm what may be acceptable, such as digital documents, insurance app details, finance information, company authorisation or other supporting evidence.

4. Hire, lease and company vehicles

For company, lease, hire, trade or fleet vehicles, we may ask for company authorisation, fleet authorisation, a hire agreement, lease agreement, job sheet, or written permission from the person or business responsible for the vehicle, along with photo ID.

5. Right to refuse service

If we cannot confirm ownership, registered keeper details or proper authorisation, or if we have concerns about legality, safety, fraud, stolen vehicles, false details or inconsistent information, we may refuse service. If we have already travelled, a call out or wasted visit fee may apply. Where possible, we will explain this during booking.
